Looking back..

First off I have been on the web since 1995 or so in various capacities. I started GreyMattering back in early 2001. I then ventured into the much easier to use Blogger, and later to MovableType, then finally onto B2, and B2Evolution and last and hopefully last Wordpress which is the step daughter of b2, and cousin of b2Evolution. I ran a site called Poet’s Cafe a really bad ass little place back in 1999 that hosted blogs before they were called blogs. I still can’t believe I bought my first domain back in 1999. I’ve had a lot of influences along the way that have shaped my online identity. They include :

3 Documents that continue to influence me:

  • The Old NineRules
Back in the day the NineRules were a great inspiration. I actually have this on my Desktop WordPress and look at it once a week to remain fresh.
  • 37Signals Manifesto
I read this once a month. Just for kicks. And I am always learning new things.
  • The Cluetrain Manifesto
This document is like my bible. I read it. Breathe it and drink it daily.

The People that have influenced me the most along the way:

  • Dan Grossman
Dan is a guy I wish I knew better. One of the most successful guys you’ve never heard of, that you will someday know his name.
  • Darren Rowse
Darren’s been more of a religious inspiration than a professional one in the past. Although the roles have switched since I ditched organized religion into the deepest black hole I could find.
  • Paul Scrivens
Scrivs has been a huge influence on my past as far as bringing in multiple streams of income, and selling his sites. Still always love digging into his writings and learning good shit.
  • Maddox
I think the internet was created by and for Maddox.
  • Matt Mullenweg
Ever since B2 Matt has been a standup guy that I could look at and go Wow! This guys is a smart fuckr.

Sites I used to visit daily:

  • 9Rules
Check out this archive. I still read this and glean new ideas.
  • JJR512
I confess. I was once a forum troller. Haha. Not really. But I hung out in forums.

    Sites I visit daily now:

  • Steve Pavlina
This is a new read. That I really love.
  • TechCrunch
Im addicted. What can I do?

  • Things about me you don’t need to know:
I don’t read the news on a daily basis. I read the sports page once a week. I don’t read comics. I enjoy IMing more than real conversations. I sing in the shower. My closest friends include bum actors, brainy scientists, and sexual deviants. I’m more visionary than workhorse. I’m more snarky than asshole. I’m more intelligent than moronic. My best friend had the lead role in an academy award winner.

  • I’ve already shared to much. Haha. Good Day to You.
